Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday night informed that the number of cases for the coronavirus or COVID-19 has risen to 1,018. The state Health Ministry informed that 150 people were tested positive for the COVID-19 today.
Maharashtra has officially become the first state to cross the 1,000-mark in relation to the coronavirus cases across the country while Mumbai has been the worst-hit with 590 positive COVID-19 cases.
Earlier today, 150 people were tested positive for the coronavirus in Maharashtra. Of the 150 cases, 100 fresh ones were reported in Mumbai. The city also reported five new deaths, taking the death toll in Mumbai to 40.
Maharashtra reported 12 new deaths on Tuesday taking the death toll in the state to 64. The state health ministry, however, informed that 79 people have been discharged from the hospital.
“The current count of COVID19 patients in the state of Maharashtra is 1018. Newly, Mumbai 116, Pune 18, Ahmednagar 03, Buldhana 02, Thane 02, Nagpur 03, Satara 01, Aurangabad 03, Ratnagiri 01, Sangli 01, such 150 patients have been identified as positive. Discharges 79 (sic),” Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope tweeted.
Meanwhile, in the wake of a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is likely to bar vegetable vendors across 241containment zones in Mumbai. These are the zones where most COVID-19 patients have been reported.
This is being done after there were reports that people are not practising the guidelines amid the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak. People in these containment zones are still going to the market.
In Maharashtra, the doctors, healthcare workers among other front-line workers have been infected in some cases. Ajit Pawar had expressed concerns over the same. In South Mumbai's Wockhardt Hospital, over 40 nurses and three doctors were tested positive for COVID-19.Rajesh Tope earlier informed that the state government currently has over 37,000 lakh PPE kits, 2 lakh N-95 masks and 1,500 ventilators. However, in case of emergency, the Maharashtra Government has sought 3.25 lakh PPE kits, 9 lakh N-95 masks, 99 lakh triple layer masks along with over 2,000 ventilators from the centre.
