Navi Mumbai to increase COVID-19 vaccination centres

Navi Mumbai’s civic body, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to increase the number of COVID-19 vaccination centres in Navi Mumbai in view of the vaccination drive.

Currently, there are 25 vaccination centres in the area which is touted to increase to 50. Since January 16, 400 people have been vaccinated daily at four centres in Navi Mumbai. After that, the municipality had planned to increase the number of centres and vaccinate one thousand people every day. Since then, six centres have been expanded and now 1,400 health workers are being vaccinated daily at 14 centres.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, February 10, 84 fresh cases of the coronavirus were recorded in Navi Mumbai whereas two patients succumbed to the disease. Moreover, currently, 825 patients are undergoing treatment for COVID-19.  

On the other hand, earlier on Wednesday, January 20, Indira Nagar which had just seven active cases in January, all recovered from COVID-19. Moreover, as a result of intensive contract tracing, enrolling local leaders, social workers and general practitioners etc. have helped reduce the number of positive cases, as reported by the NMMC.

In addition, the Indira Nagar area had reported 13 deaths so far due to COVID-19. However, there was not a single death after the month of June last year. Moreover, Medical officer Maithili Shinde, in-charge of Indira Nagar Health Centre, speaking about the recoveries informed that her team made sure that at least 20 contacts of every positive patient were traced and quarantined.
