Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has operationalised Maharashtra’s largest single-roof dialysis centre with 50 beds at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Vashi Sector 14, providing major relief to kidney patients requiring regular treatment.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde recently inspected the facility and directed officials to increase awareness about the centre so that more needy citizens can benefit from its affordable services.

Highlighting the increasing number of diabetes-related kidney ailments, Dr. Shinde said the civic body has expanded dialysis services across the city and now offers a total of 85 dialysis beds.

These include 50 beds at the new special centre, 10 at Vashi Public Hospital, 11 each at Nerul and Airoli hospitals, and three beds at the CBD Belapur centre. More than 1,000 patients have already availed treatment at the special dialysis centre since its launch in January.

Dialysis treatment usually costs between INR 3,000 and INR 3,500 per session, with patients often requiring treatment two to three times a week, making it financially difficult for many families. The civic body established the large-scale centre to provide affordable healthcare support to economically weaker patients.

During the visit, Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde, Medical Health Officer Dr. Rajesh Mhatre, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ajay Gadde, Deputy Commissioner Smita Kale, and other officials were present.

Dr. Shinde also stated that under the National Family Health Survey’s Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) campaign, health screenings are being conducted for all citizens above 30 years of age. The programme focuses on early detection and prevention of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

The commissioner further announced that Vashi Public Hospital will soon introduce advanced healthcare facilities including MRI and Cath Lab services, CSSD, a modular mortuary, and a milk bank. He added that the municipal corporation is also working on improving healthcare quality and addressing the shortage of trained medical staff through planned measures.
