Number of new cases in Mumbai spikes

Mumbai reported 503 new COVID-19 cases, 397 recoveries and seven deaths on Wednesday, February 3, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,10,134. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,625 active cases and 2,92,225 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,373 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 28,47,368 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 177 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,081 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Wednesday, February 3, Maharashtra recorded 2,992 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,33,266. Currently, there are 37,516 active cases in the state. With 7,030 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,43,335.

More than 30 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,169. While 1,82,181 persons are under home quarantine, 2,093 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.58 per cent, and 2.52 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 12,899 new cases, 17,824 recoveries and 107 deaths taking the tally up to 1,07,90,183 on Wednesday, February 3. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,04,80,455 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,54,703 in the country. At present, there are 1,55,025 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,92,16,019 samples have been tested up to February 3. So far, 44,49,552 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
