Maharashtra has recorded over 3,500 cases of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya in the first three months of this year.

Last year, in 2023, Maharashtra witnessed the highest number of mosquito-borne cases with a staggering 36,857 cases.

However, in 2024, the mosquito outbreak is exhibiting similar trends. Between January and March, the state health department has reported 2,038 cases of malaria, 1,220 cases of dengue, and 330 cases of chikungunya.

It is pertinent to note that this report has arrived even before the arrival of monsoon. Therefore, the impact during the monsoon could be substantial.

The increased number of reported cases is attributable to improved reporting methods and surveillance compared to the previous year.
