In a recently shared update, State's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) minister, Rajendra Shingane, confirmed that the supply of Remdesivir in Maharashtra would improve from May 10, 2021.
The information was shared by the minister on Wednesday, May 6, 2021, where he stated that an official communication has been sent by the concerned departments to seven companies supplying Remdesivir. These companies have been directed by the central government to supply medicine across the country.
Currently, over 22,000 doses of Remdesivir have been received by the government and the information shared by National Health Mission Head, N Ramaswami, also revealed that additional 28,000 doses will be received on Thursday, May 7, 2021, by the Maharashtra government.
To further strengthen the availability, officials have decided to procure approximately 1.5 lakh vials of Remdesivir from Uzbekistan following a tender that was recently floated.
The need for Remdesivir has increased significantly in India due to the ongoing second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, and the country, since April 27, has received over 1.5 doses due to the assistance and donations offered by several countries.
