Major Hurdle Cleared for Kalyan SATIS Project, First Flyover Phase Likely by June-End

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has cleared a major obstacle in the long-pending Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) project near Kalyan West railway station, paving the way for the opening of the flyover’s first phase by June 30.

A decades-old “Optics Building,” which had delayed construction work for several years due to legal disputes, has now been demolished following court proceedings and coordination between civic authorities and building stakeholders. Officials said the removal of the structure has cleared four key bottlenecks affecting the project.

The SATIS project, aimed at reducing severe congestion around Kalyan railway station, has been under construction for nearly eight years. The 1,200-metre-long flyover will connect Bail Bazaar Chowk on Vallipeer Road to Subhash Chowk on Murbad Road, allowing vehicles to bypass crowded internal roads around the station area.

Officials said work on the affected section has started immediately after the demolition, and efforts are underway to open the first phase of the bridge before the end of June. Executive Engineer Rohini Lokre stated that the remaining work is being carried out on priority to meet the deadline.

The project has also adopted advanced Malaysian UHPFRC (Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete) technology at critical sections of the flyover to speed up construction and improve durability. Authorities believe the project will significantly ease traffic congestion outside Kalyan station once completed.
