After the state cabinet made Maharashtra Housing Area and Development Authority (MHADA) the authority to redevelop ramshackle buildings, it's undertaking - Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) - has proposed to demolish ‘dangerous’ marked buildings after the residents have evicted. The proposal is likely to be considered.
This comes after a part of Joseph building, situated at Crawford market, collapsed on Tuesday night. As a precautionary measure, the Mumbai Fire Brigade also evacuated the adjoining Dwarkadas Bhavan. However, due to the resistance by local residents for refusing to move out, evictions were delayed.
