Mixed blessings for mill workers

Mumbai - Mill workers eligible for the MMRDA's housing scheme in Panvel were a happy lot when the auhorities decided to grant two houses to each worker instead of the stipulated one. The scheme provides for a minimum of 160 sq ft apartments for each worker. The MMRDA however decided to avail of the legal provisions and allot two flats each, totalling 320 sq ft. 2417 workers have currently benefited from the lottery that was declared this week. However 150 of these workers have been allocated the two flats on different floors, defeating the purpose of the scheme, they say.
