The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated the process to prepare a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Metro Line 14 connecting Kanjurmarg and Badlapur, moving the long-pending project a step closer to execution.
MMRDA has floated a tender for the appointment of a consultant to prepare the revised DPR and finalise the implementation strategy for the metro corridor. Officials said the revised report will help determine the project’s technical planning, financial model, and execution roadmap before construction work begins.
According to reports, three consulting firms have submitted bids for the DPR consultancy work. After scrutiny and finalisation of the consultant, the authority will proceed with approvals and subsequent construction tenders.
Metro Line 14 is proposed as a major suburban connectivity corridor linking Mumbai directly with Badlapur through Thane district. The route is expected to be around 39–45 km long and include approximately 15 stations. The corridor will have underground and elevated sections, with portions passing through the Parsik Hill region and Thane Creek area.
The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Kanjurmarg and Badlapur and improve connectivity for commuters from eastern suburbs and extended Mumbai Metropolitan Region areas. Officials estimate the project cost at around INR 18,000 crore.
MMRDA officials said that once the revised DPR receives approval, the authority will begin the next stage of tendering and project execution. However, the actual commencement of construction and completion of the corridor may still take several years.
