Comics, TV shows, movies, animated shows have shown a number of relationships which have become a popular culture reference over the years. On the occasion of Friendship Day, let's have a look at those references which have left a mark across the globe for the emotional rollercoaster and bond they shared
There’s no better show across the globe which defines what true ‘friendship’ is. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, this American television sitcom has revolutionised true friendship with six friends, living in New York, hustling and making us laugh. Ross, Rachael, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe have many traits which we find in our friends and within us as well. The bond those six shared, the 'I'll be there for you' attitude, and the countless jokes, made this sitcom an international sensation and even though it ended a long time ago, when we even utter the word friend, the show does cross our mind.
Tom & Jerry
Jai & Viru
Yeh dosti hum nahin todhenge, Todhenge dum magar Tera saath na chhodenge! This classic Indian duo from the evergreen Bollywood movie ‘Sholay’ brought joy, tears and thrill to the viewers over the years. In this social media-driven world of friendship, Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Jai, and Dharmendra’s portrayal of ‘Viru’ taught the masses what sacrificing for your friend meant. Going out on a limb to make things better for your buddy, supporting him during thick and thin, and rigging a coin flip only to save your bud made this duo our beloved friends.
Scooby & Shaggy
Shaggy and Scooby Doo have been buddies and did form an unbreakable bond ever since they were very little. Whenever Scooby used to be in danger, Shaggy never hesitated to save him, even though he wasn't the bravest. Scooby cared for Shaggy the same way, but he would often play pranks on Shaggy such as scaring him and snatching food from him. The human and the great dane have influenced millions over the years and this friendship is etched in everyone's memory.
Although the world has changed on many levels, some references from back in time just keep the pure emotion of dosti alive. Be it Rahul-Anjali from 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', Akash, Sid and Sameer from Dil Chahta hai, or Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet, they've set friendship goals for all of us for life. Don't use social media to wish a friend, meet or call your bud and wish him/her a happy friendship day!
