Mumbai – The Bombay High Court has confirmed what was merely hearsay all this while.
The regular and rising incidence of accidents and loss of lives on the Central Railway is having a detrimental effect on the marriage prospects of eligible young men living in the central suburbs.
While hearing a petition filed by an activist Samir Zaveri, the court observed that young girls are reportedly preferring their partners from the western suburbs of the city. The Railways, said to be the lifeline of Mumbai, is divided into Western and Central parts of the city. The Central Railway leads in the number of disrupted schedules of the trains, as also in the number of mishaps.
The court has prodded the CR in this regard while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Zaveri. The court observed that the condition of commuters is worse even than the jail inmates and asked the CR authorities why they could not start services for Kalyan-Dombivli from Churchgate railway station. Railway authorities have made it clear that people who die in accidents are mostly from the age group of 21 to 40 years.
