Designed by Manish Malhotra, Mumbai Police's ceremonial uniforms have been the talk of the town since it was showcased. It comprises of a navy blue bandhgala kurta with tassled shoulders, a white pajama with a red belt and a mavala turban.

Here's everything you need to know about this new uniform:
- Manish Malhotra received felicitation for his collection of the ceremonial uniforms at Umang 2020, the annual Mumbai Police show which was telecast on January 26, 2020.
- In an interview with ANI, Malhotra stated that from a designer to an icon, the journey had been overwhelming for him. 2020 was a very special year for him as he completes 30 years of costume designing in the movies and has worked with four generations of actors.
- Mumbai Police had instated the proposal for a mounted unit in 2018. However, it was accepted just a few months ago after State Tourism and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray initiated the move.
- State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh stated that Mumbai Police has modern jeeps and motorcycles. However, it was felt that a mounted unit would be useful for patrolling in crowded areas. For the first time since Independence, Mumbai will have a mounted police unit.

- Notably, the horse-riding police personnel which was introduced by the British was discontinued in the year 1932 due to the growing vehicular traffic in cities.
- The uniform is a short sherwani which is hand embroidered with threadwork on chest and sleeves. It has intricate shoulder badges that make it look royal.
- It is paired with the traditional Maratha warrior pagdi with a gold dori wrapped around it and has traditional Indian breeches as a pair of bottoms.
- There's a gold sash and a red velvet cummerbund.
