Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has accused the BJP of attempting to take over prime open spaces in Mumbai and allocating them to individuals linked to the ruling party.
In a post on X, Thackeray alleged that the BJP contests elections in Mumbai with the sole objective of acquiring valuable public land and handing it over to its own associates. He claimed that, apart from taking over the city's only artificial turf football ground for the construction of a convention centre and naming it after a BJP leader, the government has also allotted an additional 16 acres of land to another member of the party.
According to Thackeray, the land includes a cricket ground developed during the previous Shiv Sena-led administration for public use, as well as two plots belonging to MHADA, which he alleged are being handed over free of cost.
The former minister said his party would oppose the move and launch a public campaign against what he described as the BJP government's "blatant land grab." He appealed to Mumbai residents to protest against the alleged transfer of public open spaces to politically connected individuals.
Thackeray also demanded that the Chief Minister immediately cancel the land allotments, alleging that the ruling party was prioritising political interests over the welfare of Mumbai and its residents.
The BJP has not yet responded publicly to Thackeray's allegations.
