Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday criticised the BJP-led administration over the city's monsoon preparedness, alleging that the large number of trees falling across Mumbai during the past 24 hours exposed the failure to carry out pre-monsoon works.
In a post on X, Thackeray said the incidents of fallen trees across the city were proof that essential pre-monsoon preparations had not been undertaken.
"The number of trees that have fallen across Mumbai in the past 24 hours only proves what we have been saying: pre-monsoon work didn't happen in Mumbai," he said.
Targeting Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, Thackeray alleged that she had been more focused on issues related to Bangladesh and the Union Home Ministry rather than addressing civic concerns affecting Mumbaikars.
He also praised Leader of the Opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Kishori Pednekar, for visiting areas affected by clogged drains, incomplete road works and other civic issues, while accusing the ruling alliance of prioritising its "favourite contractors" over public welfare.
Calling the situation "a shame", Thackeray said Mumbai, the country's highest tax-paying city, was being run by an administration incapable of effective governance.
He further attacked the BJP, claiming that despite controlling both the Union and Maharashtra governments over the past 12 years, it had failed to transform cities under its administration.
"Show me one city in the past 12 years, run by the BJP with the support of both the Union and state governments, that has done well. Every city it has touched has descended into chaos and corruption," Thackeray alleged.
His remarks came as Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall and multiple incidents of tree falls and waterlogging in several parts of the city.
