An FIR has been registered against a BJP corporator by Kharghar police for gathering large crowd to celebrate his birthday amid ongoing pandemic.

Kharghar BJP corporator Nilesh Baviskar was allegedly celebrating his birthday with a gathering of more than 40 people at his office on Sunday, November 22. Hence, Baviskar was booked by the Kharghar police late on Sunday night for violating government rules regarding COVID-19.

Around 10.45 pm, the police raided his office and found 20 people on the ground floor and 20 on the first floor.

Senior Kharghar police official said that a complaint was received regarding a gathering at his office following which they visited his office. After verifying all facts a case was registered. The party was attended by Baviskar’s relatives and friends, police said.

Apart from Baviskar, others were also booked under relevant sections of the IPC. As per Government regulations, the gathering of a large crowd is not allowed. Hence, they have been charged for disobedience of law.

According to the police, Baviskar’s birthday was on Saturday, November 21, but he had organised a birthday party at his office in Sector-18, Kharghar on Sunday night.

Earlier in April 2020, another BJP corporator and 10 others were arrested at Panvel in Raigad district of Maharashtra after they were found assembled at one place for his birthday celebration despite the ongoing lockdown.
