Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly winter session, the opposition protested against Maharashtra government for being apathetic towards the demise of Comrade Madhavrao Gaikwad. The Communist Party of India (CPI) leader was the opposition leader.
While addressing the press conference, the opposition leaders criticised the state government demanding an apology regarding the same. Bowing down to the pressure, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil issued an apology in the first winter session of the state assembly.
Former MLA and senior CPI leader Gaikwad died on November 12 at the age of 95. Late Gaikwad was the first opposition leader but he was not given state funeral. After his demise, the government did not approach his family even after 30 hours.
The insensitivity of the government is being criticised all across and the opposition parties have raised the issue. Maharashtra Legislative Council Opposition leader, Dhananjay Munde, demanded an apology from the state government and action against the concerned officials.
