Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday denied the claims of his meeting with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also ended the speculations of his party forming an alliance with Raj Thackeray-led MNS saying that there is no plan for an alliance right now.
However, Fadnavis said that there is a possibility of an alliance if MNS’ outlook expands on various issues.
I did not meet MNS chief Raj Thackeray and there is no plan to join hands with him as of now. MNS’ ideology is different from ours. If they consider expanding their outlook on various issue, we may join them,” Devendra Fadnavis said.
Fadnavis, the leader of the opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative assembly, further said that BJP as a national party is in favour of working with various organisations including regional ones.
Earlier on Tuesday, the media reports suggested that Raj Thackeray met Devendra Fadnavis to talk about the possibilities of an alliance between MNS and BJP.
Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Raj Thackeray aggressively campaigned against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
However, MNS only won one seat in the Maharashtra assembly elections which held in October 2019. Raj Thackeray-led party has been shrinking rapidly over the past five years.
