Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde has announced the installation of a 42-metre-tall statue of his mentor Anand Dighe in Thane city. He made the announcement during the 'Bhoomi Puja' for the renovation of the Watch Tower at Shivaji Maidan.
Eknath Shinde said that the renovated area will not only have a grand statue but also various facilities, PTI reported.
Dighe, a very popular Shiv Sena leader from Thane area, died of a heart attack in an accident in August 2001.
A budget of Rs 11 crore has already been approved for the work, Shinde said. "If we think of Dighe sahib, with whose blessings I became the Chief Minister, he will never face a shortage of funds," he told PTI.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday appealed to people to opt for cluster redevelopment instead of separate redevelopment projects. Because earlier it has allowed for integrated urban renewal with good infrastructure, open spaces and amenities.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of various projects in Thane, Shinde said that the Devendra Fadnavis government wants every city in the state to progress.
While urban centres like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane have infrastructure, resources and potential for growth, attention should also be paid to regions that currently lack economic strength, he said.
Highlighting the benefits of the government's cluster development policy, Shinde appealed to citizens to support redevelopment through collective planning rather than opting for separate redevelopment projects.
