Elections in Several Municipalities Postponed Due to Legal Complications

Amid the legal complications surrounding reservations in the upcoming Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in the state, the State Election Commission has now faced the embarrassment of having to postpone elections to around 50 posts of municipal chairpersons and corporators in municipalities and nagar panchayats scheduled to vote on Tuesday, due to legal issues.

The entire election process in 10 municipalities including Baramati, Ambernath, Mahabaleshwar, Phaltan has been postponed. Voting in all these municipalities will now be held on December 20. In the first phase, voting will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, for a total of 288 municipalities, including 246 municipalities and 42 urban municipalities. But due to legal issues, the State Election Commission had to postpone the elections in some municipalities with 48 hours left for voting.

All municipal elections have been postponed due to legal complications for the mayor's post. The entire election process in ten municipalities has been postponed due to the mayoral election crisis. Elsewhere, ward-wise voting has been postponed. The entire Ambernath Municipal Corporation election was canceled, while six wards in Kulgaon-Badlapur were affected.

Ward-wise Postponements

● Dharashiv City: Ward 2A, 7B, 14B

 Kulgaon–Badlapur Municipality: Ward 5B, Ward 15B, Ward 17A, Ward 10B, Ward 8A, Ward 19A

● Elections postponed in Talegaon and Lonavala, six wards each, and in Maval, two municipal councils.

Gadchandur Municipal Council: Ward 8

 Mulnagar Municipal Council: Ward 10B

● Gondia Municipal Council: Wards 3, 11, and 16

In Yavatmal district, elections in wards of Digras, Pandharkawda, and Wani have been postponed.

 In Nanded district, one seat each in Mukhed, Dharmabad, Bhokar, Kundalwadi, and Loha has been deferred.
