At the same time, the government is continuing the construction of the Marathi Bhasha Bhavan, a major cultural and administrative centre dedicated to the Marathi language. The project had faced delays earlier because the site is close to the sea, which caused water seepage during excavation. However, construction work has now resumed, and a part of the building is expected to be inaugurated by February next year.
In addition, a research sub-centre for Marathi language studies will be developed in Airoli in Navi Mumbai. The state government has allocated INR 35 crore for this facility, which will provide space and accommodation for Marathi scholars, researchers, and writers.
To strengthen the global presence of Marathi, the government has also purchased a building of the Maharashtra Mandal London in London for about INR 5 crore. This building will be developed into the Global Marathi Language Centre, which will work to promote Marathi language, literature, and culture worldwide.
