The monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature, which was earlier scheduled to begin on June 10, has been further postponed. It will now begin on June 27.

A decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting on Thursday, May 6. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired the cabinet meeting at Sahyadri Guest House. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has requested his party to relieve him from the post, joined the meeting through VC. At the end of the budget session in February, the government had announced that it would hold the monsoon session from June 10.

However, it has been postponed due to the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections scheduled to be held on June 26 for Mumbai Graduates and Mumbai Teachers constituencies. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force for the biennial elections. A detailed review meeting on relief work in drought-affected areas will be held soon. Measures to deal with the water crisis and fodder problem will be taken in that meeting.

Marathwada, which has eight districts, has been hit by a severe drought this year. According to the state irrigation department, as of June 06, 2024, 20.64 percent water is left in the dams of all the six divisions of the state. Only 8.37 percent water is left in all the reservoirs in the Marathwada region, which has eight districts.

The cabinet also decided to set up 40 cattle camps in drought-affected areas.
