Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has called on the BJP-led government to withdraw all notices and FIRs issued against students who participated in recent protests, alleging that the administration is intimidating young protesters.
In a statement, Thackeray said the government should immediately stop what he described as harassment of students. "The BJP regime must withdraw all the notices, FIRs and stop intimidation of students," he said.
Expressing solidarity with the protesters, Thackeray assured students facing legal action that Shiv Sena (UBT) would stand by them. "For all those who have received these notices, we will stand with you, just like we did during the protests," he said.
He added that the party's legal team has already begun work and would provide free legal representation to those booked in connection with the protests. "We have begun our legal work and will fight pro bono for all those who are charged in these protests," Thackeray said, urging affected students to contact the party's legal cell via email at shivsenaubtlegal@gmail.com.
Thackeray also criticised the government's response to the protests, saying students should not have to petition or meet government officials to seek relief. "This shouldn't require petitioning or meeting the government or police. This is basic," he said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader further demanded inquiries into the alleged use of excessive force by police against unarmed students during the demonstrations. "Also, inquiries against the excess force at some places against unarmed young students. We will pursue matters on that too," he added.
The statement comes amid continuing political debate over police action and legal proceedings against students who took part in the recent protests.
