Mumbai Congress Vice President Chitrasen Singh on Tuesday resigned from her post while distancing herself from other responsibilities and roles in the party. This comes ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra which are scheduled on October 21.

Singh submitted her resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party’s Mumbai unit President Eknath Gaikwad. As per the media reports, Chitrasen Singh may join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Singh has been working in the Mumbai Congress for the last 30 years. Talking about his resignation, Singh said that the party leadership has become devoid.

There is no top leader in the party to whom we can complain. The party did not give tickets to North Indian leaders. The whole country is supporting the removal of Article 370 from Kashmir and the Congress is opposing it.” said Singh.
