The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee has announced the appointment of 69 new district presidents across the state, triggering internal disagreements within the party. According to party sources, the reshuffle has intensified factional tensions in several districts, especially over the selection process and representation of local leaders.

The appointments were made as part of the party’s organisational restructuring ahead of upcoming elections. However, some senior leaders and workers have expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that deserving candidates were overlooked and that certain appointments were influenced by factional politics.

The issue has become particularly prominent in regions where rival groups within the Congress are competing for control of district units. Leaders close to different camps have reportedly raised objections regarding the balance of power and consultation during the decision-making process.

Among those reacting to the developments were party leaders Kedar Thakur and Amy Thakur, who highlighted concerns over internal coordination and organizational unity.

Despite the controversy, party leadership has defended the appointments, stating that the selections were made after considering organisational strength, grassroots work, and electoral preparedness.

The reshuffle is being viewed as a significant move by the Congress to strengthen its base in Maharashtra and streamline party functioning at the district level.
