NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik once again targeted tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal for not paying rent to Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation's (MTDC) which was worth ₹41 lakh.

What did Nawab Malik say?

When Modi government announced the list of 2 lakh tainted companies, two companies belonged to tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal. Malik pointed out that the Rawal's Tornamal Hill Resort is illegally standing on MTDC’s land. He added that soon he will submit all the proofs to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after which he should take necessary actions against Rawal.

Malik added that after India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered to shut down tainted companies, Jaykumar Rawal’s Toranmal Hill Resort company was also shut down. He alleged that the resort is still accepting online bookings and said that he has the receipt of the same which reads ₹7,000 dated to February 10.

What is the scam?

Tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal bought Toranmal Hill Resort on rent from MTDC. In 2006, MTDC asked Rawal to vacate and handover the resort for not paying the rent worth ₹41 lakh, according to Malik. Then in 2011, MTDC officials took a firm stand against Rawal and sent him a notice to vacate the premises but Rawal did not respond to the orders.

Defamation case is baseless

On January 22, 2018, farmer Dharma Patil consumed poison and died later on January 28. Post his death, Malik had accused Rawal of exploiting farmers. Rawal denied the allegations and blamed Malik for defaming his name and said that he will file a defamation case. Malik said he did not receive any summons for the same.
