After Maharashtra Assembly passed the Maratha reservation bill on Thursday, the issue of granting reservation to Dhangar and Muslim community is being highlighted. Both communities have been demanding reservation for years and the opposition has become aggressive seeking the same.
Earlier on November 29, Maharashtra government introduced the Maratha reservation bill and passed it unanimously in both the houses providing the Maratha community 16 per cent reservation.
On Friday, Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil demanded clarification from the state government regarding the reservation for Dhangar and Muslim community. After Maratha reservation, the demand for Dhangar and Muslim community is intensifying.
Since the inception of Maharashtra Assembly winter session, the issue of Maratha reservation was on the highlight until Thursday. On the last day, the opposition in the house raised the question regarding Dhangar and Muslim community reservation.
Vikhe Patil demanded five per cent for Muslims to be implemented while Congress MLA Naseem Khan said that the issue of Muslim reservation is not about religion but about the backward class in the community.

Earlier, a Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) report on Dhangar community suggests a reservation for the community and the opposition raised the issue in the house demanding a special assembly session for the same.
However, the state government has said that there is no need for a special session to resolving the Dhangar community’s reservation issue. In the next Maharashtra assembly session, they will introduce the ATR report on the same.
