The opposition on Tuesday withdrew the no-confidence motion filed against Maharashtra Assembly speaker Haribhau Bagde.
Earlier, the opposition created a huge uproar, in the Assembly, against the ruling government for moving a confidence motion in favour of the speaker. It accused the BJP-led government of not working democratically.
However, after all the ruckus, the Indian National Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil announced to take back the resolution of no-confidence. This has astonished everyone as to why it has happened all of a sudden.
The opposition’s objection earlier was that they were not allowed to speak in the Assembly. Thus, on March 5, the opposition carried out a no-confidence motion against the speaker for tilting towards the ruling government. However, after the 14-day deadline, the notice wasn’t brought in the assembly.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday passed a confidence motion in favour of the Assembly speaker without discussing the resolution adopted by the opposition. This led to huge criticism of the ruling government and an unstable assembly as the house was not able to function properly.
The discussion on the no-confidence motion was taken into consideration but the opposition withdrew the notice.
