The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Tuesday announced the reservation of seats for various categories for the upcoming 2025 general elections. The draw for reserved seats was held at Ram Ganesh Gadkari Rangayatan, under the chairmanship of Administrator and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
The lottery determined reservation for Scheduled Caste (Women), Scheduled Tribe (Women), Backward Class (General and Women), and General (Women) categories.
According to the draw, seats have been reserved as follows:
Scheduled Caste (Women): 5 seats
Scheduled Tribe (Women): 2 seats
Backward Class (Women): 18 seats
General (Women): 41 seats
The draw was conducted by schoolgirls Pihu Gound and Anshika Prajapati from TMC School No. 7, in the presence of Additional Commissioner (2) Prashant Rode, Deputy Commissioners G.G. Godepure and Umesh Birari, and Assistant Commissioner Balu Pichad.
As per the 2021 Census, the total population under TMC limits is 1,841,488, of which 1,26,003 are Scheduled Castes and 42,698 are Scheduled Tribes. Out of 131 total seats, 9 are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 3 for Scheduled Tribes, 35 for Backward Classes, and 84 for the General category. Of these, 66 seats are reserved for women.
TMC comprises 33 electoral wards, 32 with four members each and one with three members, making up the total 131 corporators. The final ward structure has already been published.
Commissioner Saurabh Rao stated that the reservation process has been completed, and citizens can submit objections and suggestions between November 17 and November 24, 2025 (till 3 pm) at the Citizen Facilitation Centre in the TMC headquarters or at the nine ward committee offices.
Objections received offline will be reviewed before publishing the final reservation notification. Online or email submissions will not be accepted, the Election Department clarified.
