After Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a criminal case against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in connection with Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) embezzlement case, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Eknath Khadse on Wednesday claimed that Pawar's name was never mentioned in the case.

Khadse said that when he was pursuing this case as the leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra legislative assembly. "I raised this issue (MSCB scam case) several times but I can state that Sharad Pawar's name was nowhere in this case," Khadse asserted.

Ahead of 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections which are scheduled on October 21, ED filed a criminal case against Sharad Pawar along with his nephew Ajit Pawar and 70 others in connection with the alleged 25,000 crore MSCB embezzlement case.

Khadse further said that he wonders how Pawar's name was dragged in this. These remarks can backfire on the ruling BJP government amid the claims made by the opposition parties that it is a political "vendetta" to silence the opposition leaders.
