Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde has instructed Shiv Sena office-bearers and workers not to erect large political arches, banners or hoardings on roads during the upcoming festival season.
Shinde said such structures often occupy road space and contribute to traffic congestion, particularly during festivals such as Ganeshotsav, Navratri and Dahi Handi, when crowds and vehicular movement increase across Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalwa and Mumbra.
Speaking at an event in Dombivli on Sunday, Shinde said he had directed Shiv Sena workers not to put up political arches anywhere during the festive period. He also said police had been asked to take action if any such structures were erected by party workers.
He said public roads should remain clear for motorists and pedestrians and that political publicity should not inconvenience citizens.
Shinde added that he could not comment on the practices of other political parties, but made it clear that action should be taken if anyone from Shiv Sena erected such arches.
