Retired bureaucrat UPS Madan takes charge as Maharashtra State Election Commissioner

After swearing-in as Maharashtra Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari appointed retired IAS officer UPS Madan as the sixth Maharashtra state Election Commissioner. 

Former bureaucrat Madan took over the office on Thursday while replacing JS Saharia whose five-year term as State Election Commissioner (SEC) ended on September 4.

Madan, a 1983-batch IAS officer has served as Maharashtra Chief Secretary and held various important positions in the government during his long career. Madan’s tenure as chief secretary ended earlier this year after former Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Ajoy Mehta replaced him. 

The former IAS officer has a long experience in the administration with his work experience as a Zila Parishad CEO, district collector, MMRDA commissioner and MHADA CEO among others.
