It has been revealed that the addresses of 57 voters in the Belapur assembly constituency were registered at the Belapur Municipal Corporation ward office itself.
An investigation by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) found that these 57 voters do not actually reside at the ward office address. During a physical inspection, ward staff confirmed that no one on the list lives there.
“How were 57 voters registered at the ward office? Do these voters exist only in files and tables?” the MNS asked, calling the incident an example of gross negligence in voter registration. The party added that such errors undermine the credibility of the electoral system.
With its characteristic sarcasm, the MNS remarked, “Were the election officials registering these voters in their sleep?” It further announced plans to ‘honour’ the officials responsible — “We will felicitate them with shawls and coconuts for such blatant mistakes in the voter list,” the statement read.
The MNS has demanded an immediate inquiry and urged the Election Commission to investigate how these entries were approved and take corrective action before the polls.
