Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday approached the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) in connection with the Wadala custodial death case while demanding inquiry into the matter.
A delegation led by Mumbai NCP President Nawab Malik met MSHRC executive chairman MA Saeed and demanded strict action against the accused policemen. Malik was accompanied by other spokespersons of the NCP including Sanjay Tatkare and Clyde Castro.
On October 28, a 26-year-old man – Vijay Singh - died in the police custody at Wadala Truck Terminus police station. The deceased's family and friends have alleged that he was beaten to death by the policemen.
Singh, a resident of Sion area, who worked as a medical representative was detained at Wadala TT police station for questioning in a case. However, Singh allegedly died in the police custody.
In this matter, after the internal investigation, five policemen have been suspended including an assistant police inspector, a sub-inspector and three constables.
The case should be investigated in detail and strict action should be taken against the accused policemen responsible for the death of Vijay Singh," Nawab Malik told MSHRC.

The senior NCP leader also alleged that the medical treatment to the deceased was also delayed after he was beaten up in the custody.
