The Indices Ended Flat After A Volatile Session

The indices gave up most of the gains to close flat on April 16. Nifty ends above 14,600 and Sensex rises close to 30 points led by IT, Auto and Pharma stocks.

At close, the Sensex was up 28.35 points or 0.06 per cent at 48,832.03 and the Nifty was up 36.40 points or 0.25 per cent at 14,617.90.

About 1617 shares have advanced, 1230 shares declined and 152 shares remain unchanged.

On Nifty 50 index, Wipro (8.94 per cent), Hindalco (4.65 per cent), Asian Paints (2.94 per cent), Ultratech Cement (2.69 per cent) and Cipla (2.61 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while JSW Steel (-1.54 per cent), ICICI Bank (-1.43 per cent), Larsen (-1.13 per cent), Bajaj Finance (-0.94 per cent) and Tata Steel (-0.89 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Financial and Real Estate all other indices ended in green. Nifty Pharma (1.90 per cent), Nifty IT (1.21 per cent) and Nifty Auto (1.21 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 1.17 per cent and 1.05 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: The momentum indicators like RSI and MACD support the upside move in Nifty. We may see 14,850 – 14,900 levels on Nifty in a few trading sessions.
