When you talk about Rum in India, the only brand people associate with the drink is ‘Old Monk’. Indian entrepreneur, former chairperson and managing director of Mohan Meakin, Kapil Mohan died in Ghaziabad due to a cardiac arrest.

Brigadier (retd.) Mohan had received the Padma Shri in 2010 and was 88 when he breathed his last.

Launched in 1954, Old Monk was for the longest time the best selling dark rum in the world. It was also the biggest Indian Made Foreign Liquor brand. Mohan’s leadership saw the company develop three distilleries, two breweries and a host of new franchises in India.

At some point, many of us have sipped on Old Monk and Coke and have made memories. Let’s pay respect to the man who gave the world a sweet, spirited gift.
