It could be summer evening walks, family dessert outings, casual visit to satisfy cravings or stopping by a favourite ice cream shop after dinner.

TasteAtlas recently released its list of the world's 100 most iconic ice creams, featuring legendary desserts and famous ice cream spots from across the globe.

India’s love for ice cream has received global recognition as five Indian ice cream creations have made it to the list.

What’s even more exciting for Mumbaikars is that three iconic names from Mumbai have secured spots on the prestigious global list.

1. Ice Cream Sandwich, K. Rustom & Co.

Mumbai’s legendary K. Rustom, famous for its old-school ice cream sandwiches that have remained a city favourite for decades.

Founded in 1953, the iconic Churchgate outlet became especially popular for its creamy mango ice cream sandwich, which is tucked neatly between crisp wafers, with subtle sweetness. Apart from this, chocolate ice cream sandwich continues to draw long queues even today.

The place offers an array of flavours, including seasonal fruit specials that keep regulars coming back.

2. Naturals

Naturals Ice Cream was founded in 1984. As the name suggests, it is known for using real fruits and natural ingredients, keeping its flavours fresh without any artificial flavours or preservatives.

Their most iconic flavour is tender coconut, a uniquely tropical treat that uses fresh coconut in a rich and creamy ice cream base.

The tender coconut variant, filled with real coconut chunks, continues to be a bestseller across the country. It has also now earned global attention and a place in the global list.

3. Apsara

Apsara Ice Creams, established in 1971 in Mumbai, is well-loved for experimenting with bold desi-inspired flavours that tap into Indian street-food nostalgia.

Guava, a tropical fruit with a unique sweet-tart flavor profile, is its signature ice cream flavor, the Taste Atlas website states. The guava ice cream is celebrated for its authentic taste, with small chunks of guava fruit. It stood out sweet, tangy and a hint of spicy flavour mimicking the way the fruit is traditionally eaten in India.

With over 50 flavours made using premium ingredients and no artificial preservatives, the brand balances classic favourites with inventive new combinations in every scoop. Today, it has several outlets across India.

The ranking by TasteAtlas was curated based on public ratings, cultural significance, authenticity and the regional legacy associated with each dessert. The list celebrates ice creams that have gone beyond being simple sweet treats to becoming part of local food culture and nostalgia.
