Mumbai's Nehru Centre - a hub for scientific, cultural and educational activities

The city of Mumbai hosts several popular destinations and amidst the list of activities, the city also hosts Nehru Centre, an important location for education and knowledge. History states that the centre was developed with an aim to promote First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's teachings.

The activities here have been designed keeping his ideals in mind, and the knowledge is shared with the help of educational and cultural programmes which are hosted at the Centre. 

Besides this, the activities at the Nehru Centre also include  scientific, cultural and educational programs.

Renowned criminal lawyer from Mumbai, Shri Rajni Patel, launched the Nehru Centre in 1972, in the city when it was known as Bombay. Former PM, Late Indira Gandhi had laid the foundation stone of the centre on November 2, 1972. The land was then leased by the Government of Maharashtra and it was said to be over a six-acre plot.

As per records, the Nehru Centre today is spread over an area of 20,000 sq.ft. and is known for its planetarium, auditorium, experimental theatre, art gallery, library, research centre and other facilities. Among these, several schools organise trips to the planetarium making it the most popular activity at the Centre. History states that this was commissioned on March 3, 1977, and since then the planetarium has developed int a centre for astronomical studies whereby scientists and scholars from the respective field(s) gather for discussions.

Other activities organised at the Nehru Centre include quiz, science elocution, painting, poetry, quiz and many such activities focused towards motivating students.
