A month after Mumbai got its viewing gallery at Malabar Hill, now the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to charge entry fees for taking a look at the prestigious Queen’s Necklace situated at Marine Drive. Currently, the view is free for everyone but soon, BMC is planning to levy fees in order to recover the maintenance expenses from the earnings.
The Pramod Navalkar Viewing Gallery is situated next to Kamla Nehru Park and has been constructed at a height of 279 metres from sea level at the cost of ₹8 crores. At a time, the balcony can accommodate up to 150 people.
As per the proposal, people under the age of 16 will still be eligible to access free entry at the sight-seeing place, whereas it will carry a usual charge of ₹50 for Indian citizens and ₹100 for foreign citizens. Alongside, the municipal corporation is planning to levy a separate charge on the use of binoculars and telescope.
Currently, the gallery consists of two binoculars and two telescopes for flaunting the visually appealing sights. Meanwhile, the local residents have welcomed the decision stating that Queen’s Necklace is one of the most prominent destinations in Mumbai and people from across the world are attracted to the sight.
