On Saturday, October 9, World Post Day will be celebrated. Every year it is celebrated on October 9 as it marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It was established in 1874 in the Swiss Captial, Bern. Postal services across are the countries are operational for ages. The first World Post Day was celebrated in 1969 at the UPU Congress in Tokyo.
What is its Significance?
World Post Day aims at creating awareness of the role of the postal sector for people and in the business sector. Another reason to celebrate World Post Day is to let people know about its contribution to social and economical development in one's country.
On World Post Day, it is expected from countries across the globe to let their citizens know about their post's role and also to conduct program activities for the public and media.
It is reported that more than 150 countries every year celebrate World Post Day while some countries observe this day as a working holiday.
