GC 2018 Badminton: India win gold for the first time in history in the mixed team event at the CWG

Saina Nehwal helped India beat Malaysia 3-1 in the final, clinching another gold for the country at GC 2018.

It was a historic moment for India as the badminton team beat Malaysia 3-1 in the final to bag a gold medal, which happens to be the first ever for Indian badminton in the mixed team event at the Commonwealth Games. 

The team of Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponnappa, N. Sikki Reddy, Srikanth Kidambi, Satwik Rankireddy, Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty were excellent to guide India to victory. 

Satwik Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa gave India the lead with a 21-14,15-21,21-15. 

Srikanth Kidambi beat Lee Chong Wei 21-14, 21-14 in 42 minutes to give India a 2-0 lead after which Malaysia clawed back with a doubles victory against Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty 

Saina Nehwal beat Soniia Cheah 21-15, 19-21, 21-9 to make it 3-1.

Earlier, India men's table tennis team won gold against Nigeria by beating them 3-0 in the final.
