GC 2018: Rahul Aware, Sushil Kumar claim gold for India

On the first day of wrestling at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, India's Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware won gold in the men's freestyle 74kg and 57kg receptively, while Babita Kumari claimed silver in the women's 53kg freestyle final.

Earlier, wrestler Kiran had outplayed Katouskia Pariadhaven of Mauritius 10-0 to win bronze in the women's 76kg freestyle as well, at Gold Coast in Australia on Thursday.

Maharashtra's Tejaswini Sawant won silver in the finals of the women’s 50m rifle prone, finishing behind Singapore’s Martina Lindsay Veloso. This is the sixth CWG medal for 37-year-old Sawant, following two golds in 2006 and a pair of silvers and a bronze in 2010.

26-year-old Rahul Aware won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal and shed tears of joy as the Indian National Anthem played with him on the podium.

India's tally now is 14 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze.
