One of the iconic sports events hosted by Mumbai is the Tata Mumbai Marathon that witnesses participation from all around the globe. The marathon is Asia's largest marathon and accordingly, Procam International, the pioneers of distance running events in India, on July 24, announced the launch of registrations for the 17th edition of Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM), beginning Friday, July 26, 2019.
The event will witness 50,000 runners take a step forward to be fitter and better. Therefore, Tata Mumbai Marathon strives this year to #BeBetter. As per the tradition, the prestigious Tata-backed event will take place on the third Sunday of the new year, January 19, 2020.
Unlike any other event in the country, Tata Mumbai Marathon has the privilege of being hosted and launched from the glorious precincts of Raj Bhavan. The first citizen of the state, the Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri. CH. Vidyasagar Rao signed on, as the first participant of TMM 2020.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon has grown tremendously over the years and it’s a delight to be the first one to register for this prestigious marathon. The journey of the Mumbai Marathon is truly spectacular which has touched the lives of millions of people while synonymously creating fitness conscious society. It has become a single largest fundraising platform which is benefitting thousands of people. The marathon represents the secular and democratic feature of our country.”
He joked that he has attended so many marathons and charity events that he should be bestowed with the title of "Marathon Man“.
Inaugurated in 2004, the running extravaganza has gone to become a sporting event that has inspired citizens to come together on a common platform, beyond boundaries of sport, religion, race, and colour.
Suprakash Mukhopadhyay, Company Secretary, Tata Sons said,
I am extremely proud to be here as this is the 17th edition of Asia's largest marathon. This is our third year as the title sponsor and it is getting bigger and better. Last year, we had 47,000 runners and this year, we expect that Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020 will have more than 50,000 participants. So far, everyone has supported the cause of running regardless of their caste, creed, religion, colour."
