StanChart Marathon organisers get BMC notice

Mumbai - The municipal corporation has taken a tough stand and charged the organisers of the prestigious Standard Chartered Marathon scheduled on Sunday a hefty tax of Rs 5.48 crore. The BMC has issued the notice to the organisers to pay the fees immediately and if they fail to pay the tax, the BMC will take a legal course, warned the civic officials.

The organisers have taken permission from the BMC to organise this marathon. The organisers charge Rs 22 lakh for advertisement. The organisers have paid a sum of Rs 5.89 lakh for this purpose but they have not yet paid taxes for advertisements and other facilities. A Ward’s assistant municipal commissioner, Kiran Dighaokar, informed that the civic body has sent them a notice for paying the tax of Rs 5.48 crore. Meanwhile, organisers have expressed their inability to pay such a huge tax.
