Mumbai: Air India to Cut International Flights by 15% Amid Operational Challenges

Air India on Wednesday announced that it will reduce its international flight operations on wide-body aircraft by 15% over the next few weeks due to operational disruptions, aircraft shortages and airspace restrictions.

The airline said several international routes will either see reduced frequency or temporary suspension as part of the revised schedule.

Among the routes facing temporary suspension are Delhi–Chicago, Delhi–Washington, Delhi–Shanghai, Mumbai–Melbourne and Kochi–London Gatwick. In addition, frequencies on multiple routes to North America, Europe, Australia and the Far East will be reduced.

Flights between Delhi and cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Newark, Paris and Sydney are expected to operate with fewer weekly services. Certain routes from Mumbai to international destinations will also witness schedule adjustments.

Air India stated that the operational changes are necessary due to longer flying times after closure of Pakistani airspace for Indian airlines and disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict. The airline is also carrying out additional safety inspections on parts of its Boeing 787 fleet, affecting aircraft availability.

The carrier said affected passengers will be contacted directly and provided options including alternate bookings, complimentary rescheduling or full refunds.

Despite the temporary cuts, Air India clarified that the majority of its international services will continue to operate normally.
