In order to streamline its operations, low-cost carrier SpiceJet recently announced that all its operations for Mumbai will be done from Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from October 1, 2019. These operations will include both passenger and cargo aircrafts across domestic and international networks.
After Jet Airways suspended flight operations in April, SpiceJet and IndiGo began using Jet's slots. SpiceJet's Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said that a single terminal operation will help SpiceJet substantially cut down costs and provide passengers with a seamless and smooth travel experience as the passengers' transit between domestic and international flights at one of the country's busiest airports.
The airline currently operates around 150 daily flights from the airport. Most of these are operated from Terminal 1. In the last four months, SpiceJet has launched about 78 flights connecting Mumbai to different cities. These include flights from Mumbai to Jammu, Dehradun, Guwahati, Jaipur, Amritsar, Mangalore, Coimbatore and more.
Currently, SpiceJet operates total of 550 daily flights to 62 destinations, including 52 domestic and 10 international ones. The airline has a fleet of 77 Boeing 737, 32 Bombardier Q400s and three B737 freighters.
