36000 BEST workers have threatened to strike work from midnight Thursday if their salary demands are not met.
The BEST workers are up in arms against non payment of salaries. They claim to have received only half the salary for the month of May so far. The decision to strike work if no assurances are forthcoming from the government was taken at a meeting of the BEST Workers' Union on Monday.
The workers were promised the salaries for May by 2 June, but have now been told that salaries will be credited only on 20 June, and that only half the amount of salaries will be credited. The union now says that if the entire salary is not credited by Thursday, the workers will not work from midnight. BEST Workers Union president Shashank Rao says the civic administration has flouted the industrial court order by not paying up the salaries on time.
