The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Global Road Safety initiative are all set to transform the 13 km-long LBS road wherein the road will be refurbished and redesigned.

Keeping pedestrians' safety in mind, 13 other junctions will also undergo changes in the city. The BMC officials informed that as LBS Road was due for extension work, it was decided to incorporate the engineering designs proposed by experts under the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).

To keep the traffic movement smooth, three lanes will be built on each carriageway with every lane being a fixed 3.5 metres and the remaining road space will be allocated to the footpath. However, due to encroachments, the lengths vary. Also, the footpath cannot be less than 2 metre as there should be room for at least two people and differently abled people to walk.

BMC’s Chief Engineer (Roads and Traffic) Vinod Chitore said that the entire 13 km stretch of LBS Road will be transformed by the BMC and 13 intersections as well in association with BIGRS. He added that every corner will have a footpath for pedestrians to walk.
