CR Announces 10-Day Block At CSMT; Several Trains To Be Short Terminated

Passengers travelling on long-distance trains to and from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus are likely to face temporary inconvenience after a major traffic and power block was announced by Central Railway as part of ongoing redevelopment work at the station. The block has been scheduled to begin from May 29, 2026, and will continue for a period of 10 days.

According to railway officials, infrastructure and modernisation activities will be carried out on platforms 16 and 17 at the historic terminus. The work is being executed under the larger station redevelopment project being undertaken through the Rail Land Development Authority. Railway authorities stated that foundation-related work and other essential infrastructure upgrades are required to improve passenger facilities and operational efficiency at the station in the future.

In Step 1 of the information update, the redevelopment work was described as a major infrastructure activity that would temporarily affect the movement of several long-distance trains operating to CSMT. It was explained that many trains would be short terminated at Dadar and Thane instead of completing their regular journey to the terminus. In Step 2, the details were presented in indirect speech, where railway officials said that “modernisation and redevelopment work” would be undertaken at the station during the block period. Central Railway also stated that “temporary operational changes” had become necessary to safely complete the infrastructure work.

Several important mail and express trains have been affected due to the temporary block. The trains that will be short terminated at Dadar include the 12112 Amravati–CSMT Express, 11002 Ballarshah–CSMT Nandigram Express, 12810 Howrah–CSMT Express, 11020 Bhubaneswar–CSMT Konark Express, 22144 Bidar–CSMT Express, 22108 Latur–CSMT Express, and the 22120 Madgaon–CSMT Tejas Express. In addition, train number 12134 Mangaluru–CSMT Express will be short terminated at Thane during the redevelopment period. Passengers have been requested to cooperate with railway authorities and check revised schedules before travelling. Travellers boarding or deboarding at CSMT have also been advised to make alternate arrangements to avoid inconvenience and last-minute confusion.

The redevelopment of CSMT forms part of a broader effort aimed at modernising one of Mumbai’s busiest railway stations. While temporary disruptions are expected during the execution phase, the project is expected to improve station infrastructure, passenger movement, and travel facilities in the long term.
