After the unfortunate Himalaya Bridge collapse accident, the Railways
along with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had decided to
conduct a structural audit of the foot-over bridges at railway stations.
Under the observation, Railways shut down foot-over bridges at Western
Line's Dadar, Malad, Mumbai Central, and Central Line's Dombivali and
Kurla, for repairs.
Adding to the list, now Railways has shut down the foot-over bridge
connecting the station with Harbour line's Platform Number One. The
bridge was found to have faulty stairs and therefore, the
authorities have decided to close it for public use, till the bridge is
repaired.
Central Railways has shut down the route connecting Platform
Number Two and Three with Harbour Railways' Platform Number One. In the
meantime, a sudden shutdown of the bridge has led the passengers in a
state of confusion. Since, the passengers are unaware about the repairs,
they now have to reroute themselves and travel through the subways.
Earlier, on Tuesday, chaos had prevailed at Kurla station after
Central Railway had closed two Foot-over Bridges for renovation without
advance notice or making alternative plans.
